“The west was won by its pioneers, settlers and adventurers, who are long gone now. Yet it is theirs forever… The heritage of a people free to dream, free to act, free to mould their own destiny.”
– Spencer Tracy’s immortal epilogue from the larger than life, yet forgotten, 1962 Hollywood classic! It covers decades of westward US expansion as men marched through 1800s’ Americas amidst the gold rush, civil war and the building of railroads. Star-studded with James Stewart, John Wayne, Henry Fonda and Gregory Peck, it defined America’s making more than any cine attempt to date.
Its’ story’s similar to OfBusiness’ growth in the West. Starring men who made the West their homes by marching via rough terrains, sweltering heat and warring locals.
The men define growth for us: from near 0 to 40% of the company’s business in the last 2 years. The men define asset quality: Negligible NPAs in 2 years. The men stood for camaraderie: all pioneering old men stand, while some new adventurers from our other regions have settled in too (and were welcome). And all amidst a smile!
If ever asked, “How the West was Won”, it will always be them, the men. These pioneers, settlers and adventurers who will likely carve history – pics attached from my Mumbai and Ahmedabad trips last week.
