Due to the seasonal slowdown and the increasing temperatures nationwide, there has been a decline in India’s fuel demand, which hit record highs in February 2023, and decreased in the first half of March. Diesel, India’s most popular fuel, saw a decline of 10.2% to 3.18 million tons between 1st – 15th March 23, compared to the same time in 2022, while petrol sales decreased by 1.4% to 1.22 million tons. Diesel consumption, on the other hand, increased by 11.5% over the same time last year, and gasoline consumption was 16.4% higher in the first half of March 2023 than it was in the prior year.

The gasoline demand is anticipated to increase as India’s recovery picks up speed. However, policymakers must take action to guarantee sustained growth because the effect of inflation on the overall recovery cannot be ignored.
