It ain’t over till it's over! - Life At OFB

My experience at OfBusiness so far has been nothing short of a roller coaster ride. My Journey in the West began with exploring the city of dreams – Mumbai. With confidence on my sleeves, I started meeting clients with Nitin sir.

We toiled for about three months during which we met various connectors and agents with the purpose of providing clients with financing. We met clients having a huge turnover, much beyond what I had imagined. I had always felt that converting big clients would be next to impossible. But with a few positive talks in process, we realized that this might be the beginning of a new opportunity for us, a market that we could tap into.

However, my joy was short-lived. As time passed and my interactions with these clients increased, I realized that these clients were thugs who were just taking us on a ride. I couldn’t take the disappointment well as I had thought that these would eventually fall in place and I would soon have my first conversion. I had immense difficulty in acknowledging the fact that the cases were just not doable.

Then I restarted my journey of self-sourcing as other members of the team also joined, and in the meantime, I started learning the conventional sales pitch particularly from Harshil Modi, Arth Patel, Shubham Garodia, and Shashank. I started curating the financing leads and meeting clients in their offices. Few meetings I was able to set up on my own, others I just walked into to explore possible opportunities for business financing. I had continuous support from my team, Nitin Sir, and Asish Sir, but still, that “Win” was elusive, and it had started taking a toll on my confidence.

One day while I was pursuing various leads, one of my clients called me to inform me that his bank had agreed to issue an Equipment Bank Guarantee. It was something that I had been longing to hear for months, but as it is said in sales, until and unless you get the Bank Guarantee in hand it’s nothing but talk. I took the next local to reach the client’s office and sat for two days until the bank didn’t issue it. This was going to be my first conversion and I was excited to see how our financing line would help the client expand their business.

There it was, my first self sourced Bank Guarantee! I never felt so excited while looking at a piece of paper. That BG was the turning point in my journey, as I never looked back at my days of dismay. I became what we call in the language of Mumbai a ‘Gully Boy’, literally meeting as many clients as I could in a day, crisscrossing junctions, traveling in jam-packed locals, eating my all-time favorite Vada Pav. Eventually, over time, other client meetings also started falling in place and I had developed a decent book size in the next six months.

Then as I started visiting clients out of Mumbai with Tamarish, I realized that it was never about sales and targets, it was always about loving what you do. He made me realize that our work is just another thing that we love to do every moment, which is talking with people and creating what we call “Mahaul”. This revelation completely transformed how I looked at work, and now, it has become part of my life in such a way that my clients are my friends now. If I have to sum it up, I love what I am doing and it would have never been possible without the support of such an amazing team and other supportive members of the organization.
