Procurement Trends: What to Expect in 2022

Itโ€™s time to reconsider our procurement methods and practices as we look ahead to 2022. For the future, purchasing raw materials, contracts, vendor performance, warehouse management, logistics, and other supply chain processes must be redesigned. These are some of the smart trends for supply chain strategy in 2022:

Sustainability โ€“ย

  • Your firm may have a negative impact on the environment without you even realising it, from lithium mining for electric vehicle batteries to rainforest burning for palm oil. Itโ€™s past time to have visibility into sustainable buying procedures if you donโ€™t already. Stakeholders want companies to work with suppliers proactively to improve their mutual environmental and economic performance while purchasing raw materials.
  • It is now the procurement teamโ€™s obligation to understand that impact and do everything possible to enhance it. In either the court of public opinion or the actual courts, ignorance is no longer a defence. Nothing less is acceptable to your consumers and stakeholders.

Collaboration tools-

  • Internal collaboration can be streamlined to help businesses increase productivity and save money. They can also increase supplier relationships and reduce supply chain risks by improving external communication.ย  When and if employees connect with procurement, we use procurement technology to provide intuitive and straightforward purchase experiences. Furthermore, by utilising the appropriate collaboration and communication technology businesses may encourage a customer-centric procurement process that provides a seamless experience while purchasing raw materials and other requiremets.

Digitization-

  • The importance of Digitization was highlighted by the pandemicโ€™s unprecedented remote working conditions. Paper, spreadsheets, and manual handling are all eliminated when operations are digitised. Procurement leadersโ€™ capacity to gain strategic insights from the data they collect is restricted without a digital transformation.
  • AI is already being used by leading corporations to manage online reverse auctions and large-volume transactions, as well as to update inventory lists and purchase orders. Transactions will be validated and automatic payments will be authorised using smart contracts and blockchain technology.
  • Disruptive technologies aid procurement in balancing the drive for competitive pricing with the goal of developing collaborative relationships that encourage suppliers to innovate. Suppliers are more willing to invest in technology and development for their own skills when they have the security of solid connections.

Sourcing-

  • Traditional bidding may not go away entirely, but collaborative partnerships with key providers will supplement transactional relationships. To evaluate, analyse, and manage performance, both buyers and suppliers will use cloud-based data. Cooperative sessions will aid in identifying potential for process improvement as well as uncovering supplier risks.

To say the least, without a collaborative relationship between the procurers and suppliers purchasing raw materials amongst other things will become a tedious task. A developed understanding between these two parties can lead to a long term relationship where transactions take place in a non-disruptive manner. The activity of purchasing raw materials being one of the most basic things for any SME should happen effortlessly and we at OfBusiness are focussed on providing that experience.ย
