The state minister of steel and mines, Prafulla Mallik, has announced that the Indian state of Odisha has received 13 proposals for the development of greenfield steel mills. This is a significant development for the state, which is home to the Barbil iron ore belt and has been a hub for the steel industry for many years.
The proposed mills will have a combined installed capacity of 64.28 million metric tons annually. The proposed mills will be built by companies including Envirocare Infrasolutions Limited, Fedders Electric and Engineering Limited, Rungta Mines Limited, JSW Utkal Steel Limited, Orissa Alloy Steel Limited, Beekay Utkal Steel Limited, Arya Iron and Steel Company Limited, Siddiriddhi International Ltd., Orissa Metaliks, Jindal Steel Odisha, and ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel.
Most of the mills will be in the iron ore belt of Barbil, with others planned for Dinka, Kalinganagar, Raigangpur, Karakola, Keonjhar, Nayagarh, and Mahakalpada.
The state minister also reported that 23 of the 41 iron ore mines in Odisha that have been sold through auction so far have started producing iron ore. Meanwhile, five more mines are still in the auctioning process. This is a positive development for the state, which is the largest producer of iron ore in India.
The proposals for the development of greenfield steel mills in Odisha will bring significant economic benefits to the state and contribute to the growth of the steel industry in India. This is a positive sign for the industry, which has been impacted by the global economic environment and macroeconomic problems in recent times. The state government’s efforts to attract investment and encourage the development of new mills will help to create jobs and boost the economy, while also strengthening India’s position as a major player in the global steel industry.
