1 st homemakers
There is a joy that is unmatched in having one’s first possessions like the 1 st vehicle, the 1 st phone, the 1 st laptop. But there’s nothing to beat the 1 st house, a place you can call “your” home.
When we started OfBusiness, all of us had a simple dream to be the 1 st homemakers of as many as we could. For that would be a special place in his/her whole family and not just the OFBian at work.
As we sit back and see more and more 1 st homes being created at OfBusiness, we feel nostalgic about it. We believe that there are 4 “enough” that have helped us carry the proud tag of “1 st homemakers”.
Young enough: OFBians are young enough that they don’t have a home from before. Most of us are freshers or very early in their careers.
Pay enough: We have always believed that just having a good salary always pushes the decision of buying a home late into people’s careers. As the EMI burden (if not real, then perceptively) is a drain on the vivid cash flows. It’s the bounty of being granted and then liquidating ESOPs, which helps ease this decision of getting a home. We have liquidated ESOPs in each round of the company, except the 1 st one. Granted in each.
Save enough: We, as a company, do not splurge in company affairs. Its culture; it’s in our blood. And hence, the typical OFBian, too, doesn’t in his personal life. He/ she learns to save. Invest. And his/ her 1 st investment is usually marriage or his/ her home.
Long enough: For all of the above to happen, one has to be in the org for 4-5 years atleast, especially if he/she has started as a fresher from campus. We can proudly say that our incredibly low attrition and all-around motto/ execution of “join to retire” has been at the heart of it.
So for the umpteenth time, when one OFBian came to liquidate an ESOP to invest in his 1 st home last week, we knew another brick had been added to the OfBusiness foundation.
