Marriage is bliss
The old has to marry the new, so say everyone! And it’s everywhere. New age medicine repackages Ayurveda. Pandya can play Tests well! Repackaged Bollywood melody perfectly syncs new pacy storytelling in the movies. While our professional lives are powered by contemporary technology, we come back home to old family values. The old and new conflict but we tend to manage them well, some times very well.
Not at business though. New age enterprises, driven by decades of pent up hunger, fuelled by easy money, mostly fail in matrimony. Buzzwords of scale and growth seldom go with the age-old way of dhanda. It’s almost unsexy to talk about margins, seen as a barrier to scalability and growth.
Not at OfBusiness, though. We run that extra mile, we fight that one extra fight for the last basis point: salutes to us in operations, fulfillment and sales who earn it. At the same time, we have invested a lot and will keep investing rapidly in scale and growth; else we wouldn’t have given up all to be here. But what separates us is that we invest only when we know we will make money. We are increasingly becoming better at it.
By the way, marriage season is in, literally. Kushal’s back from honeymoon, Abhishek’s still in “sehra”, Brij is all over Facebook in anticipation and Avinash rushes to shop whenever Nitin eases. But in these months as we are rapidly scaling, lets keep our spouse “margins” happier than ever before. Doodho nahao, pooto phalo!
