The Child is Father of the Man

2018 is a year of great expectations on the back of a strong 2017, for many. Modi consolidated his electoral powers, now he’s onto GDP growth. Kohlis’ dominated the home turf; now bounce, seam and swing await. At OfBusiness, too, we kept producing our best month last 6 months; now the ever-speeding treadmill waits.

In that context, you can’t undermine the value of beginning early with a bang! For well begun is half done (“Aristotle”) and greatness just knows no other way! Mozart was composing by 5, Buffet making money by 11, Gates programming by 12, Picasso painting masterpieces by 10 and China trains them all in infancy! If you don’t start early, you can’t lord beyond your field. What we do as a child will father us as a man (Wordsworth, “My Heart Leaps Up”); so bring it on when you are a baby!

To start with a bang, we have to put our best moves and take risks upfront; much like limited overs cricket, where either the best man (“Sachin”) or the pinch hitter (“Jayasuriya”) opens. Real life, too, is not much different; it’s limited by both opportunities and resources.

Be it Kohli, Modi or us – we have to make the (child) January be the father of (man) 2018! If we want to rock 2018, all of us have to smash the first few days of January! Happy Sunday!
