60-20-10-5
Venue: Leading B-School Summit
Agenda: Ideal %spilt of an org’s tech focus
Concept:
- 60% on what “has happened”
- 20% on what “is happening”
- 10% on what “will happen”
- 5% on what “may happen”
1998 – For me as an undergrad fresher, Electronics was #1 (60%). TI, Nat Semi best recruiters, Intel the dream. Software (20%) was in design, Infosys <$100M in revenue. www (10%) was in waiting – Google in college, Yahoo just out. Mobiles (5%) were merely a status symbol.
2007 – Tech had moved 1 step in. For me as a new MBA, software (60%) was everywhere. My class was them and they all went back to it. UI/UX led wwwv2.0 (20%) was in vogue but penetration still sucked. Jobs in ’07, not only launched Iphones but also a mobile-led (10%) corporate strategy wave. Post victories in chess, artificial cars and e-media, AI was now the 5%.
2018 – Tech’s now moved 2 steps in. Mobiles (60%) are everywhere: soon subscribers >> India’s population. Oracle claims we will be ruled by the cognitive power of AI (20%), the intuitive ability of IoT (10%) and the infallible memory of blockchain.
We, at OfBusiness, have taken baby steps too in using NLP and Machine Learning in our flagship product, BidAssist. The fun has just begun as the new age technologies leapfrog to 60% of our and each org’s focus.
