Join to retire

Its that time of the year that job markets are buzzing. Mobility is a great way for employers to be on their toes as employees prosper. Some move for greener pastures, some for higher education, others for different skill-sets. It wasn’t so always, though.

My 1st professional stint was ITC, 2002. To my amazement, I found the top brass at ITC had never moved jobs since joining as a fresher. From the ‘70s, they’d taken ITC from a cigarette-only, staunch Brit firm to India’s leading FMCG major. ITC had taken good care of them too; they’d shared spoils of the explosive equity growth.

They’d always cite Pelé. He joined Santos as a 15 year old, staying on till retirement, withstanding the lure of European clubs. Santos moved from rags to riches in the ‘60s, dominating world football; Pelé was free to play and master “Ginga”, the beautiful game.

And Anuradha Paudwal in music.  While taking on Lata- Asha in the ‘80s, she knew her only way to the top was via a niche. T-Series and devotional music industry was born. Commercially more successful as a genre than Bollywood music, she sings exclusively for T-Series until now.

At OfBusiness, we pitch the old, forgotten value of “Join to retire” while recruiting. We know that if some find their home here, history will be made.
