Let The Games Begin
First there are the qualifiers, then the group stage and then the knockouts. Great teams better others at the group stage. But the greatest better themselves in the knockouts.
And we, at OfBusiness, have always believed that in our business, the first half of the year are the qualifiers. The 3rd quarter is the group stage and the JFM quarter is the knockout stage. For us, almost 40% of our profits are earned in the last quarter.
Over the years, we have seen that there are 4 facets of a successful knockout performance that work for us.
- Momentum – If Q3 or December is good, it sets you up for a great quarter ahead. Historically, December each year has been the best performance for OfBusiness up until then.
- Light at the end of the tunnel – There should be a great individual reward awaiting post the end of quarter and the reward should be contingent on the JFM performance. Historically, we have always timed our OFBian stock buyouts and allocations just after Q4.
- Fun and Games – Q4 can be a lot of hard work and when at fun and games, the hard work becomes easier to manage. Historically, we have always done our inter BU and inter geography competitions (based on business metrics) in Q4.
- Consistency – All the above 3 facets must show up each year, with increased intensity, without fail. That’s when the whole organization shows up each year.
Welcome Q4, let the games begin.
