Never Too Late

Some 3 years ago, I had given up on being fit. Work pressures were mounting being in a start-up. And likely, metabolism also was slowing down in the late ‘30s. And all this with the naysayers saying that one should enjoy life as there is but just “one life.” Fitness, a good part of my life up until then, was well forgotten. I piled on the pounds, not that it affected me in any way, except a few times in front of the mirror.

And then, one fine day, the motivation just arose by chance. A chance meeting with a friend I met the first time a month back kickstarted the conversation, and we decided to lose inches together (though we never even spoke after the meeting). Here I am, after a month or so, down about 4 inches and counting. It took a few minor tweaks to get there – lessening carbs/ dinner, giving up sugar, and a bit of exercise – but it wasn’t that tough, either. And the metabolic rate going down with age was not that big an issue; it came back after a few days.

Structural changes (towards fitness) in the body, speaking from personal experiences having done that in the past, makes you sharper in thinking and brings in incremental confidence at the very minimum.

I also realized that it’s never too late to start anything. If one wants to do it, one can do it whenever. It needs a trigger, though, and best be attempted together with someone. It pushes you more that way. And with a goal attached to it, the push is even harder. Simple learnings but got refreshed through the experience.

Armed with this experience and learning, I have promised two things to myself. One will start pushing a few more people over the fitness line, especially people who have the willingness but need a nudge. And two, start a few more vocations that I had kept on the backburner as other considerations in life have kept in. It’s never too late, you see.
