Pyramid vs. Pillars!

We, at OfBusiness, are often asked how we harmoniously co-exist as a large and varied top team. Some old, most young. Some experienced, mostly homegrown. So different in backgrounds, skills, acumen, and interests. Yet working with passion towards a common goal.

We believe our answer lies in an old analogy.
We say we are the pillars.

Pillars stand on a common foundation. Foundation being our shared values – hands-on, hungry, salesy, doing business the right way, and being leaders of youngsters.

Pillars stand a distance from each other. Each one of us is different with complementary skills; we respect that. Hence, we don’t interfere with each other. We trust that each of us pillars at his/ her level will do their bit to share the roof’s load.

Pillars that together raise the roof, which is the common goal that we are all united by.

Pyramids, though, are different.

They are much more solidly on the ground; hence the values are shared better. And once you are in the pyramid, you are in it for good. It’s difficult, though, to balance a roof on the pyramid pin-top. So, you risk building a stereotyped organization with a roof (i.e., goal) that may topple.

(Organizational) Pyramids make a tomb; they stand for death.
Pillars (“of the organization”) make a house where life resides.
