Rat races are for rats!

The start-up/ new age corporate world represents the young India of today.

At OfBusiness too, we are largely a team of starry eyed, success hungry, untiring young limbs barely into their 1st work environment post academics. We have all the positives above that lead to passion, innovation and an incomparable drive. And the commonality of the above traits builds brotherhood and camaraderie like no other.

But being an extension of the School/ College atmosphere, it comes with one stark negative. Our education systems foster a very competitive internal atmosphere. You rise by beating your friends and you are graded for the same mercilessly, continuously.

And when you are at work, you expect the same. Grades are now replaced by remunerations, designations and promotions. And finally the mind is with fear, and teamwork suffers, as there will always be differences in these “grades” due to one reason or the other. While some organizations have succeeded with the “insecure overachiever” prototype (e.g., I-banking, top tier consulting), most have died in this type.

For organizations built on young India, it remains the toughest culture challenge to solve: How to enforce “Compete externally and collaborate internally” as literally, rat races are for rats!
