The “hard” of hard work!
8 hours on the field or 12 hours in office? For most organizations, the answer’s straightforward. Building a product, selling it and creating operations to service it needs one to be in the hot sun of the real world.
The best products are built when the users have co-created it. The users will tell you what they need and what solution wouldn’t work for them. No amount of armchair thinking can substitute the insight, quick testing and early adoption that you get from time on the field.
Genius is about 1% inspiration, its 99% perspiration (ref: Edison). The comfort of the work place doesn’t let you perspire. It needs the hard hours of the field to perspire. The DNA of execution functions like Sales, Marketing, Operations (and for financial services, credit and collections) are shaped, honed and muscled on the field. That DNA, once built, is infectious and is a significant differentiator at scale.
We, at OfBusiness, have built a passion of being on the field. The comfort of office hours, for us, is to celebrate and learn from the last day, and plan for the next day with mates. And the office hours always follow the hard hours on the field.
Hard work is 1st “hard” then work. The hard hours teach you, test you, sweat you. But reward you. And hard, not many can do!
