The leggie in your team

His is a tough art, the leggie’s is. He needs to flex his wrist (not just fingers), his shoulders are stressed more and the googly needs him to control from the back of his hand. He needs years to just land it right. 

He’s born maverick and his art makes him inconsistent. The days he gets it right, it’s pure magic. The batsmen bamboozled and the spectators delighted! He’s a match winner and carries the team. But there are off days (more frequent than the rest) when he’s thrashed around on long hops. Any cricket coach would tell you that most leggies perish before they are made: inconsistent success gets as much to their heads as brickbats on bad days. Siva, Kaneria, Piyush Chawla, Amit Mishra, Mushtaq, Rashid and many that expired in their 20s. And when the times are bad, all goes berserk and each of their actions is questioned.

Rarely though, there are terriers of discipline, backed by confident and patient captains. When that happens, Warne and Kumble are the outcomes.
