The “X” in CXO
When I was growing up, I used to hear this story of a young India being our driving force to success. That we had a young demographic. That these young men and women will take us to glory. From our sports captains, from the emerging entertainers, from the emerging youth leaders and corporate chieftains. And then I used to dream that one day I/we will emulate the same.
We got that opportunity at @OfBusiness and @Oxyzo. We were firm believers in young talent right from the start. It helped that most of us who started were also young to start, even younger in our minds
Young talent may take time to ramp up, but when it does it flowers like no other. They can not only be carriers of culture but also trendsetter in values. And they can inspire easily while being even easier to emulate and relate.
One of our red-letter days in this philosophy came last week, when we elevated 9 of our young leaders to CXOs (to add to the existing 11). 6 in @OfBusiness and 3 in @Oxyzo.
A remarkable feature of them is how young they were. Median age of just 32. And 8 out of the 9 are practically in the first job of their careers (3 had a sub 1 year prior stints). Each with a median experience of 7.5 years, 7 of which are in @OfBusiness and/ or @Oxyzo. And each with a good part of the next 40 years pledged.
While being an early CXO or a co-founder could be because of legacy, a CXO earned after 7-8 years symbolizes patience, perseverance and continued leadership: qualities that one doesn’t associate with leaders of today. We are lucky to have them with us and many more such in the waiting.
