Waking up
… as world champions is a feeling in itself. It seems like ages have passed since the last one happened. The last 2 were in the Dhoni era, and since then that one has ended and we are nearing the close of the next era. It’s come after a lot of pipping at the last step, heart wrenchingly in the last ODI world cup and the 2 test championship finals.
That it came after so much struggle is itself sweet and tells us that finally results happen, if we are at it. And no better people than Dravid, Rohit Sharma and Kohli – who have all been at it for long.
That it came with the strength of seam bowling, India’s new-found strength, is almost God-sent. Both Arshdeep and Bumrah finished in the top 3. But our spinners won us many too. We can be great at what we are, but we need to build new strengths.
That it came in foreign lands is even more heartening, and that too in the West Indies, where India had its worst showing in recent memory (the 2007 World Cup). It was sweet revenge.
That it came in a time when we beat Australia enroute is prophetic, the demons are conquered, hopefully.
That it came at a time when we are a month away from the Paris Olympics could not have been better for Indian sports. If inspiration leads to success, there isn’t a better timing. And hopefully, it will transcend beyond just sports – even to us at @OfBusiness and @Oxyzo Financial Services.
With a few learnings, and with a heart swelling in pride, signing off, as world champions.
