What’s our Character!
Some events shape character, at times of millions. We Indians were a boxed class wherein 3 events in the last 100 years, shaped the way we are today.
1921 – Non-co-operation movement. We could run a “mass” program, not just “class”, and at scale. As each Indian boycotted all-things British and brought the nation to a stand-still with non-violence and civil disobedience, we stood united on the verge of independence.
1975 – Sholay. We could invest, design and earn at gigantic scale. Multi starrers, outdoor locations, western equipment, highly paid script writers and music creators. Born was a cult that defined commercial excellence and “our” genre: masala films.
1983 – Kapil’s Devils. We could be #1 globally. Hockey excellence had waned, billiards success niche and patchy. Then came our all-rounders. Our pinch hitters. Our spinners. Our guerrillas. The ego smashers. Cricket was no longer a recreation, but a religion.
For us at OfBusiness, Mar 19 is our watershed moment. We embodied the characters of ’21, ’75 and ’83. The masses came together at scale with investment to emerge #1 across commercial and operational metrics. Records will tumble, likely soon, but the year-closing month would’ve shaped our character.
I’m sure you have some, examples welcome.
