Winning in adversity

Growing up, “winning in adversity” stories used to fascinate me. Lincoln pushing for modernizing US Industry and setting up the railroad network at the time of American Civil War for abolition of slavery. Jesse Owens’ 4 golds amongst the Nazi push for Aryan supremacy at 1936 Berlin Olympics, while facing racism at home. And Walt Disney’s rags to riches story through Mickey Mouse’s meteoric rise in the Great Depression. The heroic winnings were amplified against the double whammy of huge odds and general gloom around.

Like many would have experienced at a young age, rose this fantasy to create one myself. But those insurmountable odds amidst complete never came.

Until Covid-19. Financing was its worst. Asset quality was being questioned. Liquidity was a problem. Companies were plummeting. Losses were mounting. No one knew where to deploy. All were looking for relief. After demonetization, GST, and the fall of giants (DHFL, ILFS), Covid was the body blow. Not for us at OfBusiness, though. We started last year with a credit rating of BBB and over the year were triple upgraded to A.
