The non-ferrous metals market in India is valued at over Rs 2 lakh crore, encompassing aluminium, copper, zinc, lead, tin, and precious metals. Prices are closely linked to London Metal Exchange (LME) rates and USD/INR exchange rates.

What's aluminium going for right now?

Aluminium ingots are trading at ₹200-220 per kg tied to LME prices. Ingots themselves are ₹200-205/kg while sheets run ₹210-230/kg and extrusions ₹220-250/kg. We update prices daily based on London Metal Exchange movements. Hindalco and Vedanta are your main domestic suppliers.

What's the current copper rate?

Copper's expensive - ₹750-800 per kg and directly linked to LME. Cathode grade is ₹760-780/kg wire rod hits ₹780-800/kg and scrap trades at 85-90% of cathode price. India imports 95% of its copper needs so international prices basically dictate our market.

Why has copper gotten so pricey?

Several factors really - global high-grade ore deposits are depleting so extraction costs keep climbing. Demand from electrical and construction sectors stays strong. The green energy push makes it worse since EVs need 4x more copper than regular cars. Add in LME speculation and import dependency and you've got a recipe for high prices.

What's brass selling for?

Brass runs ₹500-550 per kg right now. 60/40 composition (60% copper 40% zinc) goes for ₹500-520/kg while 63/37 brass costs ₹520-550/kg. Since copper makes up most of brass prices track copper closely. Common uses include electrical fittings hardware and decorative items.

How do non-ferrous metal prices actually get calculated?

Start with the LME rate then add import duty (7.5% for aluminium and zinc 5% for copper) plus freight insurance currency conversion and local premium. Domestic prices typically follow LME movements with a 1-2 day lag. It's a global market - what happens in London shows up here pretty quick.

I have metal scrap to sell - where can I get good rates?

OfBusiness buys scrap at competitive LME-linked rates. Aluminium scrap fetches ₹140-160/kg copper scrap ₹650-700/kg brass scrap ₹400-450/kg. Sort by type and remove non-metallic parts for the best price. Bulk quantities get better rates and we can arrange pickup.

For electrical work should I use copper or aluminium?

Copper wins on conductivity - 100% IACS rating at ₹780/kg. Aluminium only hits 61% conductivity but costs just ₹210/kg and weighs less. Use copper for quality indoor wiring where space is tight and reliability matters. Aluminium makes sense for overhead transmission lines and large cables where weight and cost are bigger factors.
