Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are becoming a vital part while supporting the creation and development of a modern and dynamic economy. The world economy has its share of problems, and growth is somewhat fragile in the advanced economies. But India is emerging as one of the desired spots amongst large economies as Chinaโ€™s economy slows down.

Of the many motors that are supporting this growth, the SME sector is a tremendous driving force. The sector contributes 45% to the countryโ€™s GDP. There have been policy changes that support the growth of SMEs. India is already improving the way SMEs do business through different regulatory policies and technology. Schemes such as โ€œMake in Indiaโ€ and โ€œDigital Indiaโ€ are attracting plenty of opportunities for SME sector. The main point is how much these initiatives will bring to the table.

There are 4 main factors that can strengthen the SME sector. The tools will only work if business models are robust.

Mobile networks and Internet are taking over the world rapidly and India is at the forefront in this revolution. India has the 2nd largest mobile phone user base and the also the largest user base across the world. Business is becoming enabled by digital transactions with the help of 40 million online buyers. E-wallets are also disrupting structured businesses such as banking. In the coming future, physical branches of banks will become obsolete and chances are physical currency will have aย lower value than today.

Some important functions of a small business can be improved by digitization. Functions such as QR codes, mobile apps, inventory management, payment, and supply chain management help enhance theย efficiency of a business.

Easy Access to Credit

There is a dire need of an effective and innovative financing solutions that will help SMEs get credit to boost their growth. An efficient supply chain can bring down the cost of finance. Developing good relations with banks and financial firms go a long way in resolving solutions.

Skills & Knowledge

People can help SMEs scale up. Every SME can have great benefits by building a team of skilled and motivated members. For some SMEs itโ€™s not possible to achieve all of this in-house, so selecting the right partners to help you connect the dot is important.
