A B2B business transaction basically means from a business to another business, different from B2C, which is from a business to a customer. When we say B2B e-commerce, we are referring to a business-to-business transaction that is done in an online mode, be it the internet or on the phone as opposed to physically going and purchasing.
B2B e-commerce has become the new normal during the last two years of the pandemic. Offline purchases and transactions started to diminish to a point that they became almost non-existent.
As now we are again heading towards a better time or as it is defined by some, ‘the new normal, it is important to understand the differences and changes in the trends from pre covid to post covid times and the changes that can be seen now.
Current Trends Compared to Covid Trends
93% of B2B buyers seem to prefer making their purchases online. Just like it was there earlier in B2C, a consumer would heavily depend upon researching online. Similarly, in the B2B model, the buyer (also a business) is interested in doing pre-sale research which can be best done in the online mode. This is why most of the buyers, as well as the sellers, have shifted all their operations to the online mode. Something that started as a measure will shape the future of B2B purchases.
If we compare it to the covid times, we may realize that the businesses were done highly through unnecessary physical meetings. These physical meetings were considered better ways of negotiating and building businesses, though that may be true to an extent. The fact is that the ease of doing business always creates a better relationship than any kind of meeting.
Change in Buyer-Seller Behavior
Earlier, in this field, both the buyers as well as the sellers were interested in organizing a meeting physically, fixing the prices through verbal agreements that are not legally binding. This is why this process has been made easier through the shift to e-commerce. It means that anyone can identify the proper details of the product that they plan to buy. After comparing the product with various other sellers, the buyer can make an informed choice. This increase in the interest of the buyer would lead to larger business efforts by the sellers. It will make good businesses more accessible to buyers and help them increase their business growth.
The Future of B2B E-Commerce
The future of society these days keeps on becoming more and more uncertain, so it is important for e-commerce businesses to have a stable online presence so they can smoothly run their business if anything happens, unlike the last time when all businesses had to shut their shops. B2B e-commerce is only going to grow more and more in the near future. For optimal business growth, it is important that all businesses keep developing their online presence in a way that it will attract more and more buyers.
