In an official statement released on 18 January 2023, the Ministry of Coal announced that they had established a coal production goal for the upcoming fiscal year. The Coal Secretary has thoroughly examined all coal businesses to evaluate their production potential and capabilities in order to meet this goal.
Following this review, the Ministry established output goals for Coal India Limited (CIL), Singareni Collieries Company Ltd., and captive and commercial mines of 780 million tons, 75 million tons, and 162 million tons, respectively. Currently, the CIL runs 290 mines, 97 of which generate more than a million tons annually. During the fiscal year 2023–2024, the coal ministry has a goal of producing more than 1Bn ton of coal.
Several concerns regarding land acquisition, forest clearance, environmental clearance, rail connectivity, and road connectivity have been considered and timelines have been established in order to ensure that these mines are capable of meeting the output targets set by the Ministry. The Ministry has reported that 56 of the 97 coal mines have no open problems as a result of the coal companies’ ongoing efforts. The top management of the coal businesses, in collaboration with State Government authorities and Central Ministries continues to coordinate and monitor the 61 difficulties that are still present in 41 mines.
CIL has produced 622 million tons in 2021–2022 and is expected to close the financial year with a 16% increase in coal production, CIL has already produced 513 million tons in 2022–2023. The CIL is anticipated to exceed the 700 million tons objective set for the current fiscal year and to reach the 780 million tons target set for 2023–2024.
India’s Ministry of Coal has set an objective to produce more than a billion tons of coal for the fiscal year 2023–2024. The Ministry is closely observing the developments to make sure that the goals are achieved and any production-related problems are resolved promptly. The Ministry is certain that the output goals would be met and can be surpassed with the ongoing efforts of CIL and its subsidiaries.
