Caustic Soda Manufacturers Steering The Alkali Industry

Caustic soda, also known as sodium hydroxide (NaOH), is one of the major contributors to the chemical industry. It is a powerful alkaline chemical commonly used in a range of industries including paper and pulp, textiles, soaps and detergents, pharmaceuticals, oil and gas, and food processing. Major Caustic Soda Manufacturers

Grasim Industries: It is a subsidiary of Aditya Birla Group– a leading player in the Indian chemical industry. It has an annual production of around 12,90,000 metric tons of caustic soda.

DCM Shriram: It is a leading chemical conglomerate that has a caustic soda production capacity of 669,000 MT/ year, with 478,000 MT per year at its Bharuch plant and 1,91,000 MT/ year at its Kota plant.

Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Limited (GACL): It is one of the largest manufacturers of alkali chemicals in India and has an annual production of around 4,29,050 metric tons of caustic soda.

Meghmani Finechem Ltd.: In September 2022, MFL announced the completion of an expansion project, adding 106,000 TPA of caustic soda production capacity. Following this expansion, MFL‘s total caustic soda production capacity will be 4,00,000 TPA.

Chemplast Sanmar: It has a total caustic soda production capacity of 1,19,000 MT/ year, with 67,000 MT/ year at its Mettur site and 52,000 MT/ year at its Karaikal site in Tamil Nadu.

Way Ahead

The caustic soda industry is expected to grow exponentially, driven by increasing demand in industries such as soap and detergents, textiles, pulp and paper, and water treatment. The increasing demand for environmentally friendly products and processes may drive the development of more sustainable production methods for caustic soda. Additionally, the growing demand for chemical products in developing countries is expected to further boost the growth of the caustic soda industry. However, the growth of the industry may be impacted by factors such as the availability of raw materials and increasing regulations on emissions and waste management.
