The Indian coal industry has been making remarkable development in recent times, with several companies achieving important milestones. It reflects that the demand for coal and the supply of coal are in synchronization. These production milestones strengthen India’s position of being the second-largest coal-producing country in the world.
Here is a detailed look at some of the recent applaudable achievements in the coal industry of India:
- Eastern Coalfield Limited- Bankola Area of Eastern Coalfield Limited (ECL) has set a new record for the highest single-day production since its inception. In a matter of one day, the Bankola Area produced 11043 tons of coal. It is a proud moment for the company as well as the coal industry. This achievement is a testament to the efficiency and capability of the Bankola Area and reflects the strong demand for coal in the region.
- Northern Coalfields Limited- Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL) produced 100 million tons of coal in the financial year 2022-23. This marks the fifth consecutive year of NCL surpassing the 100 million ton production. The fact that this milestone was achieved much earlier in January 2023 demonstrates the company’s ability to fulfil the strong demand for coal.
- Western Coalfields Limited- Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) achieved its highest-ever single-day overburden removal (OBR) of 13.07 lakh cubic meters on 6 January 2023. The OBR is an important performance parameter in the mining industry and this achievement simplifies the company’s future extraction of coal.
- South Eastern Coalfields Limited- South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) has achieved 6.5 lakh tons of coal production in the current financial year. Its mega projects- Gevra and Kusmunda projects have touched 2 lakh and 1.7 lakh tons of coal production in a day, respectively. This is the highest single-day production for both projects in the current year and a demonstration of company efficiency in managing two mega projects simultaneously.
- Mahanadi Coalfields Limited- Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), a premier coal-producing company and a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, has achieved remarkable performance with the production of 168 million tons of coal in the year 2022. This marks a 17.5% increase in production as compared to the previous year, along with a 10.65% increase in off-take 21% increase in overburden removal. The strong performance of MCL is a testament to the company’s efficient operations and productivity.
