Setting things right

One of the most soothing thoughts that I came across in the last lockdown(s) was that the world’s ruled by someone else. He isn’t asserting his dominance, but just setting things right.

I felt it when I see my child (and her friends) longing to go to school and play outdoors, now bored of screen time.

I felt it when I see many of my age staying at home and coming closer to their families: ones who hitherto prided on travelling and coming back late.

I felt it when start-ups our age started thinking about costs/ profitability: ones who raised and burnt by the hordes.

I felt it when common men wanted to donate time and money to save others: ones who cared for none but themselves.

I felt it when the rich (now devoid of avenues to spend) said that riches don’t matter.

I felt it when I saw people get nostalgic as the air got cleaner and roads litter free: ones who never cared about environment.

Yesterday, I took the vaccine. I saw young, healthy people at the prime of their lives, who would likely never visit a hospital or come in for their kin and create a commotion. Now behaving very differently. Quiet, patient, disciplined and grateful.

And I felt the same again. The world’s ruled by someone else. He’s setting things right. Let’s cooperate and get vaccinated!
