Roadmap to WFH from the Finance Team Perspective

In the midst of a deadly pandemic, the worldwide work situation has definitely changed because of the current turbulence brought by the same. Work-from-home (WFH) was the most apparent option most worldwide businesses decided for the continuation of work. There is a high concord to the fact that this lockdown has taught us lessons for the lifetime most important being the optimum usage of the resources available to us.

April 26th, marked my first day at OfBusiness, fortunately being among the few in-office interns, I got an opportunity to witness the Altruism, Brotherhood, and Camaraderie, the core operating DNA of OfBusiness. The God speed, the hustle, and the energy of the organization are just contagious. Every morning starts with a new challenge, every evening ends with new learning.

OfBusiness being one of the most progressive startups in India, through its core DNA working principle of turning the hurdles into opportunities did strive to transform its working culture accordingly, to deliver its customers an excellent experience so that they could focus on their core business.

As a part of the Corporate Finance team, the job involves collaborating and interacting with various departments and stakeholders to deliver accurate results for the management to devise the key business strategies going ahead. In this era of T20, an all-rounder is said to be an asset for a team, at OfBusiness, you are trained for the same. Along with my finance team, I am closely working with the Product and OfCommerce teams to meet my objectives. But, for the different in-house teams and departments, WFH came with its own issues that had to be sorted to deliver a better customer experience.

To tackle these issues, few strategies were devised for effective deliverance of the output. The first step includes starting the day off by prioritizing the tasks to be completed. The time that should be dedicated to a particular task has to be weighted appropriately for better implementation. Invoice reconciliations, Invoice approvals, expense management are a few of the critical tasks at hand for the team. Considering the business activities and customer requirements, the tasks in hand had to be sorted accordingly for better efficiency.

This step followed by developing a remote team with minimum human errors must be the key going ahead and most importantly for an NBFC like us. Setting optimum targets with relative deadlines has sped up the process. The finance team that involves continuous interaction with all the different departments also creates possibilities for related human errors. Proper mapping of the business activities and the use of various platforms to facilitate employee engagements for continuous discussion of the business problems during working hours has led to eliminating the majority of the human errors generated during the process.

By anticipating issues, deciding two-way work processes, and staying mindful of the employees’ requirements, the company has made sure that the efficiency and plethora of knowledge straightforwardly sway our primary objective. The crux of the situation can be rightly described using the saying, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade”.
