Indian Bureau Of Mines Releases Mineral Production Data

Recently, the Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM) released data on mineral production in India. According to the report, mineral production in the country is booming. The index of mineral production in the mining and quarrying sector for November 2022 (base: 2011-12=100) was recorded at 105.8. Additionally, the cumulative growth for April 2022-November 2022 was 4.7% compared to the same period in the previous year. In November 2022, mineral production in India increased by 9.7% as compared to November 2021. 

Production Volume

In November 2022, coal production was 761 lakh tons, lignite 32 lakh tons, natural gas (utilized) 2779 million cu.m., petroleum (crude) 24 lakh tons, bauxite 2228 thousand tons, chromite 243 thousand tons, copper 9.5 thousand tons, gold 132 kg, iron ore 231 lakh tons, lead 30 thousand tons, manganese ore 274 thousand tons, zinc 133 thousand tons, limestone 330 lakh tons, phosphorite 205 thousand tons, magnesite 9 thousand tons, and diamond 28 carat. 

Positive Growth

Among the important minerals, diamond, phosphorite, bauxite, iron ore, coal, limestone, and manganese ore showed positive growth in November 2022 compared to November 2021. Diamond showed the highest growth at 87%, followed by phosphorite at 68%, bauxite at 30%, iron ore at 19%, coal at 12%, limestone at 8.6%, and manganese ore at 18.5%.

Negative Growth

Among the important minerals, petroleum, lignite, lead concentrate, copper concentrate, gold, and chromite showed negative growth during the same period. Petroleum growth is down by -1%, natural gas (u) is down by -0.7%, lignite is down by -1.3% lead concentrate is down by -1,9%, copper concentrate is down by -4.1 %, gold is down by -0.8%, and chromite showed negative growth by -6%.
