No to Politics
In my professional experience, I have seen that the biggest stumbling block to the scale and happiness of organizations is infliction with internal politics.
While there may be others, I have seen politics happening when one claims entitlement for reasons other than performance and output. It may be because they have more grey hair, or are older in organizations or have access to corridors of power, or access to classified information, or just have a large sphere of influence. When these are reasons for winning, the organization is never a level playing field. New entrants and new ideas just don’t flourish, which curbs innovation, efficiency, and eventually growth.
This is why sports in motion, particularly team sports, are so much relish. Once put on the pitch (there could be politics off it, though), you are as good as what your output is. There is always room for new blood and new methods, as they immediately get tested. And the results are never subjective. With always an entitlement at the end, who was the best on that day.
With 3 going on in parallel – Copa, Euro, and the World Test Championships – we have always aspired, at OfBusiness, to function as fluidly and innovatively as the best teams do on-pitch. And get rewarded for just pure performance.
