Coal India Limited's Output And Supply Increased

Coal India Limited (CIL) is a state-owned coal mining company in India. It is the largest coal producer in the world, and produces 82% of India’s domestic coal supply. According to the information provided, CIL’s coal supply to the power sector increased by 11% to 432.7 million tons in the April-December period of the current financial year (2022-2023).

In the same period of the previous year (2021-2022), the supply was 390.2 million tons. The company’s output in the April-December period of 2022-2023 also increased to 479 million tons from 413.6 million tons in the same period of the previous year. CIL has set an annual output target of 700 million tons and aims to produce 221 million tons in the fourth quarter of 2022-2023 to achieve this goal.

The company’s production pace is reportedly increasing and it is estimated it will exceed its output target due to increased overburden removal (the material that needs to be removed to access the coal).

CIL supplied around 508 million tons of coal to all consuming sectors in the April-December period of 2022-2023, representing a 5.4% increase compared to the same period of the previous year.
